Not your average campervan!

I LOVE going camping with my humans. They often hire a campervan and sometimes sneak us in as not all caravan parks allow dogs. Their argument is that we're so much more than just DOGS, we're part of the family, more like the only kids still living at home...

So when I saw this picture I thought I should show it to them, they love cycling and this way they can camp and cycle at the same time! They can sleep standing up and my sis and I have a lovely little room at the top - a room with a view at that!

Hope the breaks are in good nick for going down the hills though!

Safe travel...

Here's holding thumbs that the volcanic ash from Iceland will disperse quickly so that all flights can take off safely - my husband has to fly back home from Heathrow tonight!

A special prayer too for the people and animals living close to the affected area. If I feel like moaning and groaning about something today I'm going to remind myself of what those people are going through right now.

Grandson: I love you Georgie!
George: Hey buddy, how about something to eat?

Just loved this shot! These two love each other  - George has to run for cover every now and again when the playing gets too rough but this was just a classical encounter between the two of them today. :)

For those of you interested in our Thursday hiking pictures - I've just posted last week's pics at http://www.thursdayhiking.blogspot.com/.

Have a great week everyone and let's hold thumbs for MaxMom and her Toby - this is their BIG week!

Catty humans...

I've owned two cats in my life - or shall I say, I've been owned by two cats in my life. So even though I'm essentially a dog person, I certainly have a very soft spot for cats as well.

So imagine my disdain when I was treated like an invisible being by two cat owners in the vets waiting room the other day!

I so wished I could beam all my pet-blogger friends into the room with me to put those two in their place!

My little Chloe suffers from bad allergies and I finally asked for a referral to a specialist last week. So off we went to a new vets office. After a great consultation I felt quite happy that I got some good sound advice. So it was with a positive spring in my step that I went back to the waiting room whilst the prescription was filled for us.

Seated in the room were two ladies, each with a cat. I sat down, greeted them and started enquiring about their cats. The one ignored me totally, whilst the other one gave me a half-hearted greeting, squinted at my little princess and turned toward cat-lady number 2. They continued their conversation as if I didn't exist and my Chlo and I claimed our little corner in silence.

I wanted to tell them we were allergic, not contaminated!

Ok, now I feel better. Thanks for listening. Oh, and Chloe and I continue to love cats AND their owners - we'll just watch out for those two catty humans from now on! :)

Winter's arrived!

This was the scene in our house last night. Winter has arrived in our neck of the woods and every warm, available spot was taken! Sometimes I go into a panic when I can't find one of the four members of our little clan in winter but all I actually have to do is to lift all blankets and pillows and I'm bound to discover either a Yorkie or a Maltese happily cuddled up, snoring away!

Bacardi the Maltese absolutely hates cameras and try as I might, even snapping him when he's asleep doesn't work! It's as if he has a built-in paparazzi detector - I'm sure some camera shy celebrity would pay good money for him!

So - no pics of Bacardi but trust me, his little hiding place was just as warm as the others!

Hope you're enjoying good weather wherever you are - we woke up to a beautiful morning in Cape Town!

Walking in the rain...

Thursday is hiking day and even though it was a rainy day in Cape Town, we headed out for a walk in the Newlands Forest, nestled against the side of Table Mountain.

I couldn't resist taking a pic of this sign, good to know that someone has thought of that, unfortunately its seems to be a universal phenomenon that dog owners still have to be reminded to clean up after their pets!

Almost weekend! :)

A happy moment!

As many other families in South Africa, we also have a child who lives abroad. It's not a great situation for a parent but as the years go by, you learn to accept it and make the most of every visit that you are blessed with.

Our son came to visit a week ago and to say I was over the moon is an understatement! What is even more amazing is to see the four doggies in our household go absolutely bananas when they see him for the first time. This time one year and four months have passed since his last visit and they remember him as if he's never left!

One of the reasons he visited at this particular time of the year was because he had entered the Two Oceans Marathon, held in Cape Town every year round about this time.

My husband and I ran the 21km (yep, I survived!) and my son ran his very first 56km race! On the photo above he is about five seconds from crossing the finishing line - our family was shouting at the top of our voices at this stage, I still can't believe I managed to snap a photo successfully!

What a feeling! He finished the race in 6hours 26minutes - an achievement that he can share with his children one day!

The house is very empty right now as all the kids have left - my daughter and her family have moved into their new home after staying with us for a month. This morning it's the four dogs and I, and an eerie silence...

So back to blogging, an organized household and also, a time of reflection... How interesting the different seasons of our lives are. Households alive with kids who come and go - nothing really stays the same for long!

As for the animals of this home, as I type I am surrounded by four exhausted little bodies, all in dreamland! I'm sure that all the activity in their home has left them pretty confused - it looks as if they need a vacation of sorts at this stage!

Nice to have the time to post again, I'll be popping in to say hi on all your blogs in the days to come!
